“My dream was never to go to the Olympics, I was never that child. I just knew that deep down inside I loved riding horses and that meant being the absolute best that I could be on the horse that I was on.”
Two-time Canadian Olympic event rider Jessica Phoenix and Heels Down Media CEO, Patricia Da Silva, hosted a special evening last week at the Tin Mill restaurant in Uxbridge, Ont. The seminar, Rise for Success in Business and Life, was catered to inspire business leaders, entrepreneurs, and anyone else looking for an extra kick in the pants.
Focusing on “brand DNA”, Patricia gave her perspective on what it takes to build a successful business – it takes a whole lot more than just a passive interest. Having a growth mindset can help with overcoming adversity and pushing through any obstacles – and there will be plenty!
“I ended up having to sell horses to people that were more appropriate for them, and keep going until I found a horse that was able to do the highest level of sport,” Jessica added later on, expanding on the idea of overcoming adversity. “Which is how I ended up going to the Olympics on a $3,000 Thoroughbred that raced at the Fort Erie racetrack.”
The interactive event encouraged networking and sharing of ideas through brainstorming sessions and plenty of interaction from the audience. “I found business [and] success story advice. I recommend this to any business, and there are a lot of great life lessons – it’s well worth it,” international Grand Prix dressage rider Jacquie Brooks commented after the event.
Heels Down Media will be hosting more events just like this in the near future, and video clips from this event will be made available soon.
In the meantime, let’s keep the conversation going: how do you overcome adversity?
